The Most Common Skin Conditions (and How to Treat Them)

Which One Affects You?

At Medical Cosmetics, our Lancaster aestheticians have addressed a wide variety of skin conditions, however, there are some that are simply more common than others. If you suffer from rosacea, acne scars, sagging skin, dullness, or age spots, we offer several aesthetic treatments that can rejuvenate your skin and leave you feeling fresh and beautiful.

Rosacea is a common skin condition that results in flare-ups of redness on the face. Pronounced “roh-ZAY-sha,” this condition often occurs after the age of 30 and can affect your cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead. (In some rarer cases, it may also affect your chest, neck, scalp, or ears.) Rosacea tends to worsen over time, causing a more persistent redness and a ruddy complexion.

How to Treat It: At Medical Cosmetics, we’re happy to offer both laser treatments and our StarLux IPL treatment to help reduce the redness of rosacea. With our professional KTP laser or our intense pulsed light photo-facial treatment, you can enjoy clearer, healthier skin.

Acne Scars

If you suffered from severe acne as a teenager (or even as an adult), you may now have acne scars. These scars are a result of tissue damage from persistent inflammation and are common in people who have had frequent nodular or cystic acne outbreaks.

How to Treat It: We know acne scars can be frustrating and that’s why we’re here to help. We offer a variety of aesthetic treatments that can smooth your skin and reduce the appearance of your scars. These include Microneedling, microdermabrasion, StarLux IPL, and even facial treatments.

Sagging Skin

Elastin and collagen are two naturally-occurring tissues that helps keep our skin strong and resilient. However, as we age, both elastin and collagen decrease and our skin can start to sag. Saggy skin can not only make us look older than we are, but it can also create unwanted lines and wrinkles.

How to Treat It: Today, we’re fortunate enough to have access to many different treatments that target saggy skin. One of the most tried-and-true methods is Botox, followed by dermal fillers. You can also turn to a classic laser treatment or discover the benefits of ultrasound with an Ultherapy treatment. No matter which you choose, you’ll leave with firmer, more youthful looking skin.

Sometimes you lose your bright, glowing complexion and your skin can look dull or drab. This can be caused by many different factors, including smoking, dehydration, alcohol consumption, stress, a lack of sleep, poor diet, and more and can leave you feeling self-conscious.

How to Treat It: If you’re looking for a way to rejuvenate your dull skin, our Lancaster aestheticians have the solutions. With an exfoliation through microdermabrasion, we can remove the top layer of dead skin cells and reveal the radiant skin underneath. We also offer a variety of peels that can infuse your skin with nutrients for a healthier complexion.

Age Spots

Sometimes called liver spots, age spots are small, dark areas on your skin and are commonly found on your face, hands, shoulders, and arms. These spots are common in people over the age of 50, but can be found on younger individuals as well. Many times, these spots appear because of frequent or prolonged sun exposure but they can also appear due to old age.

How to Treat It: At Medical Cosmetics, our most popular treatment for age spots is our Photo Dynamic Therapy. It’s highly effective for reducing the effects of sun damage and can successfully fade the look of age spots. We also offer laser treatments and our StarLux IPL photo facial treatment, both of which use light to target imperfections.
